Born Mutemwa Simbala, Mutemwa is an extremely gifted Zambian saxophone player who was born and bred on the Copperbelt. Mutemwa first picked up playing an instrument at a church orchestra where he first moonlighted as a clarinettist. He grew to love the saxophone when one of his friends introduced him to jazz music. His foremost inspirations are Kenny G, Kirk Whalum, Gerard Albright and the incomparable father of all classical musicians’ Johann (yohan) Sebastian Bach. Mutemwa’s journey with the saxophone has seen him feature and collaborate on a number of projects with renowned local artists such as Reuben, Uncle Rex, David Kasochi and Pastor Teddy Mantanyani to mention but a few. In 2017 Mutemwa shared the stage with Grammy award winners Kirk Whalum and Jonathan Butler in Botswana at the Gaborone Cultural Music Festival. Mutemwa is currently a student pursuing a Bachelors Degree in music with Education at Rusangu University.
