Maureen Lupo Lilanda has been in the music industry for over 30 years. A qualified Journalist, Maureen opted to follow her calling in the Arts instead. She was introduced to professional singing at the age of 15 and has never looked back. Her career has seen her evolve from a band member, Soloist, Cabaret Artist to eventually the performing and recording Artist that she is today. As a young widow and single mom, Maureen let nothing sway her from her passion and work. She has 7 Ngoma Awards, 2 Azami Awards, 1 Kora Nomination, and CEO Global (SA) as the Most Influential Woman (musical) in Zambia and for the Southern African Region. Maureen has held the position of General Secretary of Zambia Union of musicians, Vice Chairperson, and ultimately Chairperson of the Zambia Association of Musicians. She, until date, is the only female to have held the position of Chairperson of the Zambia Association of Musicians. Currently, Maureen is serving as Vice President of the Zambia Arts Adjudicators Panel. Maureen’s work has seen her travel around the globe and she has collaborated with renowned international and local Artists. She had also been instrumental in delivering music workshops both in Zambia and Abroad. She was chosen as the Zambian envoy to perform at Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday in Hyde Park, London in the UK. Through her busy schedule, Maureen still finds time for her philanthropic work which she holds dear to her heart and has served as Brand Ambassador for several organisations which include: PPAZ; Plan International; Unilever; Ministry of Health; Zambia Breweries; The Mentor Program; WWF Journey of Water; and current Board member for Special Olympics, an organisation that helps children with special needs. Maureen has 7 Albums to her name and she is currently in studio recording her next project. Maureen runs a music school called ‘Art Beat Centre’ (ABC) that teaches youths how to play indigenous Zambian instruments as a way of heritage preservation. Maureen is a legend in the Zambian music industry, and remains an icon for many.
